Built for US Auto Recyclers. Built for URG & ARA Members.
SMASH is a B2B auction marketplace for catalytic converters, copper, ferrous, cores, and end-of-life vehicle inventory — designed to fit how URG and ARA member yards already operate. National reach across all 50 states, plus Canada.
Built Around How URG & ARA Members Already Run
SMASH is designed to slot into a professional US recycling operation, not replace it. If you're a member of URG (United Recyclers Group) or ARA (Automotive Recyclers Association), the workflow will feel familiar:
- Photo-first converter intake, serial capture, VIN tagging, fill levels — the same data your buyers already ask for.
- Multi-yard support, role-based access, worker accountability — built for yards already operating to URG and ARA standards.
- Marketplace runs alongside your existing YMS. CSV export keeps your books, your pricing tools, and your accounting in sync.
- URG and ARA members in good standing are fast-tracked through SMASH verification.
What SMASH Actually Is
SMASH is a marketplace, not a buyer. You list. Vetted B2B buyers compete. You set the terms, pick the deal, and transact directly with the buyer.
SMASH provides the platform — the data capture, dashboards, buyer vetting, auction mechanics, and commission invoicing. The deal itself is between you and the buyer.
What SMASH Handles
Multi-Yard Support
Multiple locations, one login.
Seller Admin Dashboard
Live stats: boxes, units, bids, revenue.
Role-Based Access
Separate Admin, Worker, and Buyer dashboards.
Worker Accounts
Assign staff logins with controlled access. Workers build and finalize inventory but do not see sale prices, revenue, or management data.
Weight Tracking
Gross, Tare, Net per lot.
Bulk Upload
Load large inventories fast.
CSV Export
Download selected inventory at any time. Share with buyers, use for appraisals, cross-reference with VIN-to-value pricing tools.
Live Metals Price Ticker
Visible on every page of your dashboard. Tracks Platinum, Palladium, Rhodium, Gold, Silver, Nickel, Lead, Zinc, Copper, Shredded Steel, and USD/CAD.
SMASH AI Morning Market Review
Every morning the markets are open, SMASH publishes a US-edition market review covering pricing trends, PGM movement, and base metals context.
Material Coverage — Built for the Whole Yard
SMASH handles every material stream a US recycling yard produces:
- Catalytic Converters — Photo documentation, serial numbers, VIN tagging, fill levels, sequence numbering.
- Copper & Non-Ferrous — Bare bright, #1/#2 copper, insulated wire, brass, aluminum, stainless steel.
- Ferrous Metals — HMS 1&2, plate & structural, shredded steel, cast iron, auto bodies.
- Auto Parts & Cores — Alternators, starters, compressors, radiators, alloy wheels and more.
- Mixed & Specialty Scrap — Zorba, Zurik, shredder residue, lead batteries, industrial surplus.
- E-Waste — Circuit boards, computer scrap, telecom equipment.
Data Capture & Compliance
- Unique Box Labels — Every container gets a unique Box ID and a printable label generated instantly inside SMASH. Print on a thermal printer or standard office printer. Attach and go.
- Photo-First Converter Intake — Workers photograph each converter from any device. A crosshair overlay guides the shot so buyers receive clean, usable images every time.
- Fill Level Capture — Workers select a fill level to indicate converter condition. A built-in illustrated tutorial explains how to inspect and identify fill levels — no prior training needed.
- VIN Recording (optional, high buyer value) — Workers photograph the VIN from the car, a tag, or an invoice. SMASH auto-decodes it. Buyers use VIN-to-value systems to display converter images and live market values for that exact vehicle.
- Serial Numbers (optional, high buyer value) — The most valuable data buyers use for accurate appraisals.
- Accountability Built In — SMASH automatically records the date, time, and specific worker on every entry. If inventory discrepancies arise, you have a complete timestamped chain-of-custody record.
- Anti-Theft & Regulatory Ready — State-level scrap metal regulations are tightening across the US. SMASH's photo, VIN, serial, and staff-attribution system gives your yard a defensible chain of custody before it's required.
How a Sale Works
- Finalize Inventory. Review boxes, unit counts, weights, and all data in your Seller Admin Dashboard.
- Send to the SMASH Marketplace. Select finalized inventory and publish. You set the terms — minimum bid, sale window, pickup or shipping, payment terms, any conditions.
- Bids Come In. Vetted, approved buyers compete. Buyers may attach counter-terms. You are never forced to accept.
- You Pick the Best Deal. Review all bids and terms. Accept the offer that suits your operation.
- Generate the Invoice. Your admin creates an invoice inside SMASH for the agreed amount. Buyer checks in inventory via their portal.
- Payment & Shipping. Handled directly between you and the buyer per the terms you agreed to (ACH, wire, check, or other). SMASH issues your commission invoice via Stripe.
Security & Compliance
- A+ SSL/TLS Rating — Enterprise-grade encryption on every connection.
- 2FA Authentication — Two-factor authentication on all accounts.
- Organization KYC — Every business verifies identity before accessing the platform. No anonymous users.
- Manually Vetted Buyers — Every buyer is reviewed and approved by SMASH before placing a bid.
- B2B-Only Access — Closed to the public. Every participant is a verified business entity.
- Secure Auto Invoicing — Every completed sale generates a compliant invoice stored in your account.
URG & ARA Alignment
SMASH is built to fit how professional US auto recyclers already operate. We work alongside the standards and tools provided by:
- URG — the United Recyclers Group, the largest automotive recycling membership network in the United States, with over 800 member yards. URG provides business, sales/marketing, and data tools that integrate alongside your YMS.
- ARA — the Automotive Recyclers Association, representing over 4,500 facilities across 15 countries since 1943. ARA leads on advocacy, certification (CAR / Gold Seal), training, and the ROE (Recycled Original Equipment) brand.
SMASH does not replace URG's tools or ARA's certifications — it gives your yard a vetted national B2B sales channel that respects the data discipline both organizations promote. URG and ARA members in good standing are fast-tracked through SMASH verification.
SMASH is an independent platform and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by URG or ARA.
Why US Auto Recyclers Choose SMASH

Frequently Asked Questions
Is SMASH open to URG and ARA member yards?
Yes. SMASH is built for licensed US auto recyclers, dismantlers, and scrap metal dealers — including URG (United Recyclers Group) and ARA (Automotive Recyclers Association) members. Every organization is verified through KYC before accessing the platform. URG and ARA members in good standing are fast-tracked through SMASH verification.
What materials and inventory can I sell through SMASH?
Catalytic converters with photos, serials, fill levels, and VIN tagging. Copper and non-ferrous (bare bright, #1/#2 copper, insulated wire, brass, aluminum, stainless). Ferrous (HMS 1&2, plate and structural, shredded steel, cast iron, auto bodies). Auto parts and cores (alternators, starters, compressors, radiators, alloy wheels). Mixed and specialty scrap (Zorba, Zurik, shredder residue, lead batteries, industrial surplus). E-waste (circuit boards, computer scrap, telecom equipment).
Does SMASH replace my Yard Management System?
No. SMASH is a marketplace layer, not a YMS. It runs alongside your existing yard management system. Inventory is captured in SMASH for the purpose of presenting it to buyers — photos, weights, serials, VIN, fill level. CSV export lets you reconcile back to your YMS, accounting, or pricing tools at any time.
How quickly do I get paid?
You set the payment terms when you list. Buyers bid accepting your terms, or attach counter-terms you can accept, reject, or negotiate. Payment flows directly between you and the buyer per your agreed terms (ACH, wire, check, or other). SMASH does not process or hold seller payments.
Is shipping or pickup arranged for me?
Pickup and shipping are part of the terms you set. You can require buyer pickup, offer shipping, or negotiate per deal. SMASH does not handle logistics — the arrangement is between you and the buyer.
Are there any fees to get started?
No. No subscriptions, no monthly fees, no listing fees. SMASH earns a small commission on completed sales only.
